3D Printed Shotgun Cells Now Official
Since 3D printed guns knocked over a can of worms, gunsmiths are looking at the next best thing: something that won't make much of a difference to anyone who doesn't already own a gun.
Which is to say, since people with guns, in theory, have permits for them, it can't do much more harm to provide them with a means to supply their own ammunition.
Which leads us to the latest invention of gun enthusiast Jeff Heeszel, who has access to a Mossberg 590 12-gauge shotgun: 3D-printed shells.
The slugs were successfully fired with the weapon and hit targets about 30 feet away (10 meters).
The slugs went fully through the dart board, even though they were lightweight compared to standard issue shells and, thus, had less force.
2 x 12 pieces of pine were blasted through as well.
There were a few problems, but Heeszel managed to come up with a working 3D printing process in a few hours.
