A distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack launched yesterday caused a number of Dutch government websites, including the government’s main site, to become inaccessible to visitors.

According to ABC News, the attack began on Tuesday evening and made the websites inaccessible for several hours.

The government’s representatives could not say if the attack was linked to the recent arrest of Sven Olaf Kamphuis, the man suspected of launching a massive DDOS attack against the systems of Spamhaus.

Numerous DDOS attacks have been launched against Dutch organizations over the past period.

Last month, an attack on DigiD impacted over 10 million citizens. The DigiD system is used to pay bills and taxes online.

Companies such as ING, ABN Amro, Rabobank and KLM were also hit by DDOS attacks earlier this year.
