MBNA Credit Card Security, Phishing Alert

Customers of MBNA are advised to be on the lookout for malicious notifications that inform them of a new security authentication system implemented by the financial institution.

The bogus emails are entitled “MBNA : Credit Card Security !” and they purport to come from mbna@bankcardservices.co.uk.

“We've made some New improvements to Online Banking. As from 19th of April MBNA Online Credit Card Service will be launching a New security authentication. All MBNA Online Credit Card Service users are required to verify their account details,” the phony messages read.

“This process will take 7 days then we will email you with your new account security number. Click Here to get Your New Security Number Now.”

The link doesn’t point to an MBNA website, but to a compromised site that hosts a phishing page.

Currently, the site analyzed by millersmiles.co.uk has been cleaned up, but the fraudsters could change the location of the phishing page at any time.

MBNA is aware of such scams. The organization has a protection and security page on which it teaches customers about email security, credit card security, online account security and other related topics.
